THE COST OF ONE US SOLDIER IN IRAQ

May, 10, 2006

73 US soldiers sent to kill and be killed in Iraq were killed in April, the highest monthly figure this year. This has been the fate of over 2400 US soldiers in the past three years, with close to 20,000 having been seriously injured, 10,000 of them so badly they are retired from the army, many of them with missing limbs, horrific facial injuries or brain damage.

How much does it cost to keep a single US soldier in Iraq with the increasing prospect of being killed or seriously injured? The figure was released this week: 350,000 dollars a year.
